Department of Community Medicine
The subject of Community Medicine is concerned with the promotion of health, prevention, control &
management of diseases or disabilities and other health problems in the community. It is the branch of medicine that deals with
community rather than individual disease or infirmity, Community Medicine is taught from 1st Semester to 7th Semester
( in a 9 semester MBBS curriculum ).
The Department of Community Medicine at CIMS&H is well equipped to provide teaching and training of the
subject to both under graduates (including internship training ) and post graduate students.
Teaching facilities For pedagogy Lecture Halls and LCD facilities along
with AC environment is available.
Demonstration Room For teaching purposes a well equipped Demonstration Room
with transparency, projectors and black board has been provided with adequate seating arrangements for the students.
Research lab facilities have been provided with Food Adulteration detection
equipments, Milk Testing equipments, Water Testing equipments. There are also Haematological and Entomological lab equipments for
routine survey tests.
Library cum seminar room is well equipped with latest editions of books of
Community Medicine and sufficient number of international and national journals as well as WHO publications.
The staff has a number of publications to their credit in international and national journals.
Museum is well equipped with all important model displays on subjects like Environment, Water and Sanitation, Family Welfare Planning,
Waste management, Nutrition and, Vaccination and also on special subjects like No Tobacco Day. Specialized Centres of Training like
Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) and Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) are functioning to train the students with special
problems in rural health as well as the health of urban populations. In addition regular medical camps are being held in remote
areas around the college. The Dept. of Community Medicine also observes special Health days like world health day (7th April),
World T B day (24th March) World AIDS day (1st Dec) etc. Department has separate sections for A) Epidemiological Unit B) Medico social
work. C) Biostatistics. D) Health Education. E) Family case studies.
